Villa cana ( Meigen, 1804) View in CoL
Anthrax cana Meigen, 1804: 201 View in CoL .
Anthrax quinquefasciata Wiedemann View in CoL in Meigen, 1820: 150.
The genitalia resemble the figure for V. niphobleta in Zaitzev (1966) but this species has greyishwhite hair not pale brownish hair. The type female of Anthrax niphobletus Loew, 1869 (Magnesia, Lederer, No. 9807) was examined. It is quite distinct from any Egyptian specimens seen in having white to greyishwhite vestiture, apart from black hair on the upper frons, one prealar bristle, leg bristles and some long hairs on hind margins of abdominal tergites 4–7; antennae and legs brown, brown areas on pleura, sides of tergites 2–4, base of underside of abdomen; patagium and scales on costal comb white; wing base, costal cell and alula tinged whitish; there are no black hairs at the sides of the thorax as described by Loew. We think he may have examined specimens of Villa efflatouni sp. nov. which are very similar to Villa cana . Male genitalia (fig.5).
