Vesperugo circumdatus Temminck, 1840
Temminck, C. J. (1840) Monographies de mammalogie, ou Description de quelques genres de mammifères, dont les espèces ont été observées dans les différens musées de l'Europe. Tome 2: 214 [1–392]. Leiden, 1835–1841.
Valid name: Arielulus circumdatus (Temminck, 1840)
Syntype (marked with type *): ZMB 3554 View Materials , skin, skull not extracted, male, adult; Java, Indonesia; collected by Boie & Macklot, ex RMNH .
Comment: Temminck described this species from syntypes. Jentink (1887: 277 and 1888: 178) listed two type specimens (one skull and one mounted female, adult). At that time a further syntype specimen might have already been exchanged from RMNH to ZMB. Tate (1940: 9) listed two “cotypes” (one female mounted skin, skull extracted 1937; one skull only in RMNH, leg. Boie and Macklot at Tapos, Java).
