Paratypes:— CHINA. Jiangsu: Nanjing, Mingxiaoling , 4 April 1948, C. W. Cheng 20044 (NF-05501471!, NF-05501472!) ; same locality, October 1948, C. W. Cheng 15005 (PE-00679415!) .
Three gatherings, C. W. Cheng 20047, C. W. Cheng 15005 and C. W. Cheng 20044, were designated as types in the protologue ( Cheng 1958). The validating description and diagnosis were previously published by Cheng (1958: 70–71). Fu et al. (2003) treated it as a heterotypic synonym of Ulmus szechuanica Fang (1947: 22) in the Flora of China.
