Trapa mionipponica Doweld , nom. nov.

Type:— JAPAN: north cliff of northwestern valley of Shichiku, Yotsukura-machi, Futaba-gun , Fukushima Prefecture (# 78146; Institute of Geology and Palaeontology , Tohoku University , Sendai , Japan ) .

Replaced synonym:— Trapa mikii Suzuki (1961: 88) , nom. illeg., non Szafer (1954: 130).

Stratigraphy:—Miocene.

Trapa mikii Suzuki (1961: 88) , based on extinct fruits from Miocene sediments of Japan (NW valley of Shichiku, Yotsukura-machi, Futaba-gun, Fukushima Prefecture), is an illegitimate later homonym of the European fossil species Trapa mikii Szafer (1954: 130) , which fruits have been described from the Pleistocene sediments of then Żydowszczyzna, Poland (now Prinemanskaja village, Hrodna region, Belarus, formerly of the European part of the USSR).
