Alexander, 1942: 50–51 (original description); 73, figure 14 (wing). Type locality: Brazil, São Paulo, São Paulo (Serra da Cantareira).
Holotype female with labels: (1) handwritten on white paper: “ Brazil | Sao Paulo | S. Cantareira | 900m; XII. 40 [December, 1940] | Travassos”; (2) printed with handwritten inscriptions on red paper: “ HOLOTYPE Ψ | Tipula | sexcincta | C. P. Alexander”.
Preservation: mounted at the tip of a pinned paper triangle. Missing parts: antennae, right wing and right legs.
