Protologue citation:—“ Sar-dagh-Gebiet: Serpentin-Abhänge der Vorberge bei Raduše; bei den Chromeisenerz- Bergwerken zahlreich, 400–500 m (Bron. no. 1831), von hier (nach Bornmüller brieflich) auch mit Erzen eingeschleppt (mit zahlreichen anderen mazedonischen Gewächsen) im Hafen von Aken an d. Elbe, Prov. Sachsen (gesammelt VI 1920 von Lehrer Zobel in Dessau ; Herb. Bornm.).—Drenovo (Gradsko-Prilep) in der Klisura der Rajec-reka, 200–300 m (Bornm. no. 4835)” .

Taxonomic notes:— Thymus poliothrix is a heterotypic synonym of Th. boissieri var. ciliatopubescens Halácsy.
