Protologue citation:—“Uesküb: sehr verbreitet in der Weinbergregion am Vodno, 300 bis 500 m (Bornm. no. 1828, 1822); bei Siševo in der Treska-Schlucht an buschigen Hängen niederer Lagen, 400–600 m (Bornm. no. 1818, 1827b); am Aufstieg Karadžica (Dr. Dieck, nach kultivaten Exemplaren des Zoschener Arboretums; Herb. Bornm.); Babuna-planina: Oberhalb Han-Abdi-paša, 800 m (Bornm. no. 4832)”.
Nomenclatural notes:—For designating the lectotype, we selected the specimen with the handwritten description from K. Ronniger among the herbarium specimens housed in A (barcode A 00002244! [digital photo!]), HBG (barcodes HBG 518049! [digital photo], HBG 518050! [digital photo], HBG 518051! [digital photo], HBG 518054! [digital photo]), JE (barcodes JE 00011411! [digital photo], JE 00011412! [digital photo]), NY (barcode 00444538! [digital photo]), and W (W-Ronniger 1997-0000606!, W-Ronniger 1997-0000621!, W-Ronniger 1997-0000619!, W-Ronniger 1997- 0000620, W-Ronniger 1997-0000622!), which all belong to the original material (syntypes).
Taxonomic notes:— Thymus lanicaulis is not accepted here, but considered a heterotypic synonym of Th. thracicus Velen. var. alsarensis (Ronniger) Jalas.
