Type (lectotype, designated here):— ALBANIA. Scardus , in locis saxosis montis Kobilica, ca. 1800 m, 31 July 1890, Dörfler s.n. (WU-Halácsy-Graecum 0074733!; image of the lectotype is available at http://herbarium.univie.ac.at/ database/detail.php? ID =457642) .

Protologue citation:—“auf der Kobilica im Scardus (leg. Dörfler als T. holosericeus ) und auf dem Kudesi bei Vallona in Albanien (leg. Baldacci), auf der Kiona in Mittelgriechenland, wo ich sie im Jahre 1888 sammelte”.

Nomenclatural notes:—The herbarium specimens conserved in WU (WU-Halácsy-Graecum 0074735!, WUHalácsy-Graecum 0074737!) are part of the original material (syntypes).

Taxonomic notes:—The species level of this taxon is accepted by some authors and taxonomic database ( Greuter et al 1986, Euro+Med 2006 onwards, The Plant List 2013 onwards). However, we suggest, in agreement to Baden (1991), to accept Thymus boissieri var. ciliatopubescens . In our view, the varietal rank seems to be more appropriate as this taxon can be distinguished from the typical variety only by its short indument on the leaves.
