CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Rozkošný & Elberg 1984: 191, Rivosecchi 1992a: 235, Munari & Rivosecchi 1995: 5).
REMARKS: Rondani (1868c: 222) described both sexes of Tetanocera punctifrons without specifying either the number or the length of the specimens: “ mares tres et foeminam unicam inveni… In pedemontio eam invenit prof. Bellardi [I found three males and one female … Prof. Bellardi found it in Pedemontio]”. Verbeke (1964a: 10) unambiguously identified the “type” (the male specimen labeled as such), “ allotype ” (female) and “cotype” (male), which therefore must be considered, respectively, as the lectotype and paralectotypes (I.C.Z.N. 1999: Article 74.5), but did not mention an additional eight specimens in the MRSN (all are paralectotypes).
