Type locality. Bad Vöslau ( Austria), Vienna Basin .

Type stratum. Silty clay of the Baden Formation.

Age. Middle Miocene, middle Badenian (Langhian).

Etymology. In honor of Reinhard Golebiowski (NHMW, Vienna), in recognition of his advances in Triassic Alpine paleontology.

Diagnosis. Medium-sized, robust, slender shell with slightly gradate spire characterized by subcylindrical whorls with smooth subsutural band and reduced sculpture below. Axial sculpture weak and broad over subsutural band, then narrow, deeply sinuous and very weak mid-whorl, strengthen again just above the suture. Siphonal canal short, wide.

Description. Medium sized, moderately slender, robust shell of up to 12 teleoconch whorls; apical angle ~22°, later decreasing to ~12°, Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls conical, flat sided with prominent, weakly opisthocline axial ribs, separated by interspaces of about equal width. Later whorls subcylindrical with gradate spire profile. Subsutural band forming prominent but vaguely delimited smooth swelling. Whorls slightly concave below. Axial sculpture of ribs; obsolete or forming extremely weak tubercles over subsutural band, mid-whorl ribs narrow and deeply sinuous, strengthening and broadening slightly just above suture. Axial sculpture weak on last two whorls. Last whorl moderately high, ~31–35% of total height, subcylindrical with rounded basal angulation. Base strongly constricted. Fasciole prominent, broad, smooth, delimited by sharp carina, deep groove between base and fasciole. Aperture moderately wide. Columella strongly twisted, angulated at parietal area. Two columellar folds, upper one weak, lower one prominent. Columellar callus forming indistinct thin rim, not persisting on parietal area. Anal canal indistinct, narrowly incised. Outer lip thin; basal lip convex, wide. Siphonal canal very short, wide, weakly notched.

Discussion. Terebra golebiowskii is characterized by its tower-shaped, gradate spire and peculiar zig-zag sculpture. We are not aware of comparable Terebra species in the European Neogene. Terebra cacellensis Pereira da Costa, 1867, from the Tortonian of Portugal and Italy, is superficially similar but has strongly sigmoidal growth lines, lacks axial ribs at the abapical suture and has a narrower siphonal canal (see Pereira da Costa 1867: pl. 13, figs 3–6; Davoli 1977: pl. 3, figs 22–24).

Paleoenvironment. The occurrence in the Baden Formation suggests middle to outer neritic water depths ( Kranner et al. 2021).

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Baden, Bad Vöslau ( Austria).
