Type species (here designated): Omaloplia (Emphania) mutans Blanchard, 1850 (this species was chosen because Brenske (1900) stated that the description of the genus was based on it).
First subsequently included nominal species: The name Tamnoserica was made available ( ICZN 1999, Art. 12.1) by Brenske (1899) in a key to genera, without any nominal species included. The following species were the first subsequently included species by Brenske (1900): Omaloplia (Emphania) mutans Blanchard, 1850 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) laevigata Blanchard, 1850 ; and Omaloplia (Emphania) lucidula Blanchard, 1850 .
Type material examined ( Tamnoserica mutans [ Blanchard, 1850]): Lectotype (here designated): ɗ " O. mutans Cat. Mus. Madagascar / Museum Paris Madagascar Goudot 1834 / Omaloplia mutans Blanch ex typis / Brsk. I.98. vid. / pumila Brm. = mutans Bl. " ( MNHN). Paralectotypes: 1 ɗ "4177 34 / O. mutans Cat. Mus. Madagascar / Museum Paris Madagascar Goudot 1834 " ( MNHN), 1 ɗ "4177 34 / Museum Paris Madagascar Goudot 1834 / Omaloplia mutans " ( MNHN).
