ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 194 (key), 199 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Apennino parmensi, … in Etruria (= Tuscany), … ab Insubria [Parmese Apennines, … Etruria (= Tuscany) … Insubria (= Lombardy) ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype ( MZUF: Box 13): Tachina Mgn / civilis Rnd. , ♂ / 682; 2 ♀♀, syntypes (one missing right mid-leg, the other covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 13): Tachina Mgn / civilis Rnd. , ♀ / 682; 1 ♂, syntype (missing left mid-leg) ( MZUF: Box D): Tachina civilis Rnd. , 258, ♂, Parma / 393 258; 1 ♂, syntype (missing left mid-leg, abdomen partially eaten by dermestids) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Tachina civilis Rnd. 76 ♂ Parma / Coll. CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Exorista (Ptilotachina) civilis ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 125, Pape et al. 1995: 16, O’Hara et al. 2009: 94, 2020: 399, Cerretti 2010: 101).
REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 199) described both sexes of Tachina civilis without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths: “ marem unicum legi … alterum a D. Piccioli … lectum , et foeminam a D. De-Cristofori ab Insubria [I collected a single male … the other collected by D. Piccioli, and the female by D. De-Cristofori from Insubria]”. We found five syntypes in this study.
