This is a Mediterranean mountainous forest species with Palearctic affinity ( Olsufjev 1977). It was collected through Europe, Transcaucasia, Middle Asia, Turkey, and Iran ( Abbassian-Lintzen 1962). It was recorded from, Jordan, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia ( Theodor 1965; Amoudi & Leclercq 1996; Al-Talafha et al. 2005). It is a blackish species but represented by light specimens that were named by Kröber as a variety albescens ( Chvála et al. 1972) . The larva is rheophilous, collected in muddy banks or bottoms of streams ( Ježek et al. 2017).
