Comments: Status of eastern populations of Temnothorax exilis requires further study because in great probability this is a complex of cryptic species. Borowiec & Salata (2018) noted that in Greece occur at least 7 morphospecies of this complex, most of them are concentrated in the Aegean region. Clarification of the taxonomic status of these morphospecies requires detailed morphometric and genetic studies. Perhaps populations from Anatolia will turn out to be a separate species from this complex, so keeping the name T. exilis for them should be considered as temporary.
