Diagnosis. This species is morphologically very similar to S. punctata , but can be distinguished as follow: pronotum uniformly black, elytra with basal and sutural margins with wide black band, the middle spot very large but not touching the black external band ( Figs 62–64 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ). In S. punctata , pronotum is black with anterior margin narrowly reddish, elytra with basal and sutural margins yellowish brown and the middle spot is moderately large and touches the black external band ( Figs. 59–61 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ).
Description. TL: 2.14–2.21 mm, TW: 1.81–1.91 mm, TH: 1.03–1.05 mm, TL/TW: 1.16–1.18; PL/PW: 0.41– 0.43; EL/EW: 0.86–0.95; HW/TW: 0.43; PW/TW: 0.69.
Head dark brown, with mouthparts brown. Pronotum and scutellum black. Elytra dark red, with moderately wide black band along lateral margin and suture; band expanded at basal margin and elytral apex. Elytra with 3 large black spots disposed as follows: one resting on middle of elytral suture; a pair of long oval spots (larger than middle spot) resting on disc slightly posteriad of half length of elytron ( Figs 62–64 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ). Underside dark brown, elytral epipleuron brown.
Body almost circular in outline, hemispherical, shiny and glabrous. Head frontal punctures fine and conspicuous, 1.5–2.0 diameters apart, with short densely distributed setae, interocular distance of eyes 0.64x head width ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 56 – 64. 56 – 58 ).
Pronotal punctures fine and conspicuous, 1.0–2.0 diameters apart. Elytral punctures fine and densely distributed, slightly larger than those on pronotum, 1.0–1.5 diameters apart. Elytral margins very narrowly explanate, hardly visible from above.
Prosternal surface shagreened, punctures inconspicuous, with scattered long setae. Mesoventral intercoxal process transverse, anterior margin slightly emarginate, surface shagreened, punctures large, 0.2–0.8 diameters apart. Metaventrite covered by coarse and dense punctures distributed at center. Elytral epipleuron moderately broad, complete to apex, moderately foveate to accomodate femoral tips of hind legs. Wings well-developed.
Male genitalia: Penis short, capsule inconspicuous ( Fig. 202 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ); tegmen with penis guide distinctly longer than parameres, in lateral view straight, widest at base, tapering to apex, apex sharply pointed ( Fig. 203 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ); penis guide in ventral view widest at base, strongly tapering to apex, apex pointed ( Fig. 204 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ); parameres very slender, arcuate, with short setae apically.
Female genitalia: Ovipositor elongate, styli highly reduced, each with several long terminal setae ( Fig. 205 View FIGURES 197 – 205. 197 – 200 ).
Holotype: 1male, China, Sichuan: Puge , [26°21.29′N, 101°54.19′E], ca 1350m, 15.ix.2007, Wang XM leg ( SCAU) GoogleMaps . Paratypes (6): 2males, 1female, same data as holotype; Yunnan: 1female, Wenquan, Anning, [24°57.12′N, 102°27.16′E], ca 1900m, 21.v.1995, Xiao NN leg. ( SCAU) GoogleMaps ; 1male, Chengguan, Chuxiong, [25°2.39′N, 101°31.26′E], ca 1900m, 19.vii.1992, Xiao NN leg. (SCAU); 1female, Adiangu, Luxi, [24°26.53′N, 98°34.35′E], ca 1700m, 11.iii.1989, Xiao NN leg. (SCAU).
Distribution. China: Sichuan, Yunnan.
Etymology. The specific epithet is formed from the Latin adjective magnus and punctatus, referring to a large black spot on each elytron.
