Spongelia spinosa var. codmani Hyatt, 1877
Spongelia spinosa var. codmani Hyatt, 1877: 536 (no illustration).
The variety was described by Hyatt from from Tenerife, collected by Mr Codman, approximate coordinates 28.46636°N 16.24821°W (holotype MCZ PORa-7050). There are currently three Dysidea species reported from Tenerife, cf. Cruz (2002: 210-213), and of these, D. avara ( Schmidt, 1862) View in CoL , appears to answer most closely to Hyatt’s remarks. I tentatively propose the var. codmani as a likely junior synonym of that species.
