sp. nov.

Spissiomyces endophytica N. Suwannarach, J. Kumla & S. Lumyong , sp. nov. ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )

MycoBank: 822919

Etymology:— ‘endophytica’ is based on the word ‘endophyte’ from where the type strain was isolated.

Holotype:— THAILAND, Lampang Province, Mae Moh District , (18°40'52"N 98°52'11"E), isolated as an endophyte from tubers of Balanophora fungosa in a tropical deciduous forest, Jan, 2015, Suwannarach N., driedculture: SDBR-NKSpis016, living-culture: SDBR-CMU319. GoogleMaps

Gene sequence:—MF990798 (SSU), MF990799 (LSU), MF990800 (ITS), MF990801 (RBP2) and MF990802 (TUB).

Fungal colonies on PDA, MEA, CMA and OA reaching 11.0±1.3, 10.8±0.6, 19.4±1.3 and 6.7±1.0 mm in diameter at 20 °C after two months of incubation ( Fig. 2A− D View FIGURE 2 ). Colonies on PDA, MEA and OA compact, raised centrally, lobed, dark green to dark brown, and reveres dark green. Colonies on CMA, flat, raised centrally, lobed, brown and reveres dark green.A fungus produces a soluble bluish green pigment on PDA. On all agar media, mycelial composed spherical and torulose cells, yellowish brown, septate, thick-walled, 2−8.75 μm wide, intercalacy swollen cells, 10−16.5 μm and lateral germination ( Fig. 2E & F View FIGURE 2 ). Conidiogenous cells, straight, cylindrical, 1.25−8.75 × 5−10 μm. Conidia, globose, pale brown, thick-walled, 10−17.5 μm ( Fig. 2G View FIGURE 2 ).

Notes:—The larger conidial size and a soluble bluish green pigment production on PDA of this new species distinguishes it from other Spissiomyces species.
