ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1866a: 110 (key), 115 (description).
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in montuosis agri parmensis … et foeminam tridentinam [ Parmese mountains … and the female from Trento ( Italy)]” .
TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (covered with mold), 5 ♀♀, syntypes (one partially eaten by dermestids; one missing left mid-leg; one missing right mid-leg; one covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 24): Spilogaster Mcqrt / calceata Rnd., Apenn. [= Apennines] / 1304 .
CURRENT STATUS: valid species, as Helina calceata ( Pont 1986b: 138, Gorodkov et al. 1995: 13).
REMARKS: Rondani (1866a: 115) described both sexes of Spilogaster calceata without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length: “ Raro uterque sexus in montuosis agri parmensis lectus et foeminam tridentinam misit Doct. De Bertolini [Rarely both sexes were collected in Parmese mountains and the female from Trento sent by Dr. De Bertolini]. We found six syntype in this study.
