Remarks — The specimens from Sardinia, used in this study for molecular analysis, morphologically match the description of Sperchon meridianus . This species was originally described by Angelier (1954) from Corsica, but later on synonymized by Gerecke (1991) with S. setiger Thor, 1898 . Recently, Pešić & Smit (2022c) barcoded S. setiger -like specimens from Corsica and resurrected S. meridianus as a valid species distinct from S. setiger . The specimens from Sardinia molecularly analysed in this study fall in BIN (BOLD:AEO2778) which also includes specimens of S. meridianus from Corsica (see Pešić & Smit 2022c). The species is new for Italy.
