Diagnosis. Male metatibia gradually and moderately broadened, distinctly broader than metafemur, broadest near distal third, mesal and lateral (external) tibial margins deeply bisinuate, both with a shallow and broad submedian emargination, dorsolateral glandular 'pocket' absent, dorsal submedian region strongly and broadly concave; aedeagus conspicuously slender, in dorsal view equally broad in sub-basal and subapical regions, apical portion subtrapezoidal; apical projections very long and bent dorsoproximad at a sharp angle, additionally their tips are slightly upturned.
Description. Body of male ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 48–50 ) strongly convex, dark chestnut brown, covered with setae slightly lighter than cuticle; BL 2.40–2.55 mm (mean 2.49 mm).
Head broadest at small eyes, HL 0.50 mm, HW 0.48–0.51 mm (mean 0.50 mm); tempora in lateral view about twice as long as eyes, distinctly convergent posterad and posteriorly bent mesad at an obtuse angle. Punctures on frons and vertex very fine and shallow, inconspicuous; setae short, sparse and suberect. Antennae slender, AnL 1.30–1.33 mm (mean 1.31 mm), antennomeres I–VI each elongate (IV weakly so), VII and VIII each distinctly transverse, IX and X much larger than VIII, each distinctly transverse, XI indistinctly longer than IX–X combined, twice as long as broad.
Pronotum rounded, broadest slightly behind anterior third; PL 0.65–0.73 mm (mean 0.71 mm), PW 0.60–0.63 mm (mean 0.61 mm). Antebasal pits relatively distinct but shallow. Punctures on pronotal disc very fine and shallow, inconspicuous; setae short, sparse and suberect.
Elytra oval, broadest in front of middle; EL 1.25–1.33 mm (mean 1.28 mm), EW 0.95–1.05 mm (mean 1.01 mm), EI 1.22–1.32; apices separately rounded. Punctures small and shallow but dense and relatively distinct; setae much longer and denser than those on pronotum, strongly erect.
Metatibia ( Fig. 64 View FIGURES 55–65 ) in dorsal view gradually and moderately broadened, broadest near distal third (but nearly as broad also near proximal third), mesal and lateral (external) margins deeply bisinuate, each with a deep and broad submedian emargination; dorsolateral 'pocket' absent, setae on lateral margins (especially external) conspicuously long and erect.
Aedeagus ( Figs 49–50 View FIGURES 48–50 ) conspicuously slender; AeL 0.73 mm; in dorsal view median lobe nearly equally broad near base and in subapical region, distinctly and broadly constricted in between, gradually and weakly narrowed in subapical region to form an elongate subtrapezoidal apical portion, with apical projections conspicuously long, bent dorsoproximad at a sharp angle, and additionally their very tips recurved.
Female. Similar to male, but with unmodified metatibiae and slightly smaller eyes; length of temple equals 2.5–3 lengths of eye in lateral view. BL 2.43–2.58 mm (mean 2.52 mm); HL 0.48–0.50 mm (mean 0.49 mm), HW 0.48–0.53 mm (mean 0.50 mm), AnL 1.25–1.30 mm (mean 1.28 mm); PL 0.70–0.75 mm (mean 0.73 mm), PW 0.60–0.68 mm (mean 0.64 mm); EL 1.25–1.33 mm (mean 1.30 mm), EW 1.00– 1.08 mm (mean 1.04 mm), EI 1.16– 1.30.
Distribution. Queensland; north-eastern coast of Australia ( Fig. 70 View FIGURE 70 ).
Etymology. Locotypical, after Mt. Fisher.
Remarks. Males of Scydmaenus fishermontanus are conspicuous and easily identifiable on the basis of the uniquely shaped metatibiae with their mesal margin bisinuate and lacking the dorsolateral 'pocket', and an unusually slender aedeagus.
