In the description, S. chamelaensis View in CoL has been stated to possess morphological similarities with S. mangofrequentis View in CoL , one of the S. citri View in CoL synonymous species ( Mound & Hoddle 2016a). However, the quality of the slide labeled as the holotype of S. chamelaensis View in CoL is poor compared to the morphology by specimens of S. citri View in CoL from California, USA, and S. cognatosilvicola View in CoL . The mouth cone is longer in S. cognatosilvicola View in CoL , S. silvatropicalis View in CoL , and S. chamelaensis View in CoL than in S. citri View in CoL ; all specimens were collected at the exact locations in Jalisco. The median setae of the metanotum are found in a clear anterior line, unlike S. citri View in CoL , which arise toward the back from the anterior margin line. In the case of the three synonyms proposed here, the length pattern of posteromarginal setae on the pronotum is very similar to that of S. cognatoalbus View in CoL . The male specimens of the new synonyms present drepanae, thus indicating the morphology of male S. cognatoalbus View in CoL .

In S. silvatropicalis , the authors stated that the morphology of the cilia in the fore wings is entirely straight. However, a visual analysis of the male holotype and paratype showed cilia with different morphology; the first 1/4 base of the wing has a rectilinear length towards the apex of the wing and the last 1/4 is curvilinear.
