Taxonomy. Original description: Schizocypris brucei Regan, 1914: 262 View in CoL , fig. B [2°20’N, 69°30’E, Wana Toi, tributary of Gomal River, southwestern Waziristan, Pakistan; syntypes: BMNH 1913.4.15.100-109 (10), ZSI F9832/1 (1)].— Afghanistan synonyms: None.—Revisions: Coad & Keyzer-de Ville (2005: 37).—Illustration: Regan (1914: fig. B).
Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Coad (1981: 12); confirmed by Coad (2014: 206; 2015: 228).—Afghanistan materials: ZMUC.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kurram River.—General distribution: Afghanistan and Pakistan.—Habitat: This species occurs in gravelly, stony, and sandy-bedded rivers and streams; it feeds on algae, diatoms, and debris. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: VU (Rafique & Daniels 2021).—Threats: HAB, CON, ABS, EUT, FIT, COM, CLI.—Moderate sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Decreasing.—Moderate priority for conservation action.
