Sadoletus valdezi: Ban & Ishikawa, 2013 View in CoL : 201 View Cited Treatment (redescription). Misidentification.
Description. Punctures on pronotum, scutellum and corium dark brown. Head reddish brown to blackish; antenna brownish yellow; labium brownish yellow, with segment IV dark brown apically. Pronotum reddish brown to blackish in anterior lobe and brownish yellow in posterior lobe, with four longitudinal stripes on posterior lobe and sometimes one dark brown spot near posterior lateral angle (Fig. 8a, b, d). Scutellum blackish in basal half and brownish in apical half. Corium and clavus pale yellow; membrane hyaline, without any spot in middle. Venter of head and thorax covered with dense, decumbent silvery hairs. Venter of head blackish brown, with antennifer and buccula yellowish brown. Pleura same colour as head, except acetabula and posterior margin of metapleura yellowish brown. Evaporatorium dark gray, peritreme testaceous. Legs pale yellow; femora with a fuscous spot on upper surface of distal half; tibiae with two dark annulations; apical part of tarsomeres I, III, and claw complex blackish brown. Abdomen yellowish brown to reddish brown; laterotergites bicoloured, pale brown anteriorly and blackish brown posteriorly.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 e–j): Pygophore covered with suberect setae; cuplike sclerite fused with median projection of pygophore; anterior margin of median projection concave. Blade broad and flattened; tip of blade pointed and slightly curved; base of blade twisted. Phallosoma about twice as long as wide; tip of phallosoma constricted.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 9l View FIGURE 9 ): Spermatheca sclerotized, bulb gourd-like, but much more rounded than that in S. validus .

Distribution. Japan ( Ban & Ishikawa, 2013), in this study newly recorded from China (Guangdong, Guizhou).
Etymology. The specific epithet “ planus ” is a Latin word, alludes to the flat and broad blade of paramere from dorsal view.
Remarks. This species was mistakenly identified and redescribed as S. valdezi by Ban & Ishikawa (2013); see further details under S. valdezi above.
The new species is similar in general appearance to S. valdezi , but it can be distinguished from the latter by a combination of the following characters: tibiae with two dark annulations (vs. without any annulation in S. valdezi ); pronotum with posterior lobe less than 1.4 times longer than anterior lobe in female (vs. about 2 times longer than anterior lobe in female); middle margin of two halves of sternite VII almost not overlapped (vs. distinctly overlapped); posterior margin of sternite VI of female concave (vs. straight); blade of paramere broad and flattened from dorsal view (vs. rounded and pointed from dorsal view).
Sadoletus planus sp. nov. differ from S. validus in the following characters: corium opaque (vs. corium subtransparent in S. validus ); posterior margin of sternite VI of female concave (vs. convex at middle); median projection of pygophore without median longitudinal ridge (vs. with median longitudinal ridge); blade of paramere broad and flattened from dorsal view (vs. rounded and pointed from dorsal view).
The new species can be distinguished from S. pallescens by a combination of the following characters: head, anterior lobe of pronotum dark brown (vs. ochraceous in S. pallescens ); posterior margin of sternite VI of female concave (vs. convex at middle).
