Rosa miopannonica Doweld , nom. nov.
≡ Rosa styriaca Kovar-Eder & Krainer (1988: 33 , pl. 1, fig. 18, text-fig. 4/c), nom. illeg. non Sabransky (1904: 551) (ICN, Art. 53.1).
Type:— AUSTRIA. Höllgraben E Unterfladnitz bei Weiz, Steiermark (holotype, 1984/72/27, Naturhistorisches Museum, Geologisch- Paläontologische Abteilung, Vienna, Austria).
Stratigraphy:—Upper Miocene (Pannonian).
IFPNI registration lsid:— 449954C7-A40B-4DB1-853C-119F84100E24
Eponymy:—Named for ancient Pannonian Basin (locus classicus), with addition of the prefix mio - (from Miocene epoch) to distinguish the fossil-taxon from the extant species Rosa pannonica Wiesbaur (1879: 143) .
Notes:— Kovar-Eder & Krainer (1988: 33) described R. styriaca from the Upper Miocene (Pannonian = Tortonian) sediments of Höllgraben E Unterfladnitz bei Weiz, Steiermark, Austria, but it is a later homonym of the extant species Rosa styriaca Sabransky (1904: 551) . Due to lack of heterotypic synonyms for the former, a replacement name is necessary for leaf fossils from Austrian Pannonian Basin.
