Etymology. The species is named for the collector and ' brendelli ' is a latinized noun used in the genitive case.
Type material. Holotype ♂ (forewing 4.4 mm), INDONESIA: SULAWESI; labels: 1 ) SULAWESI TENGAH / Nr. Marowali / Ranu River Area / 27.i.–20.iv.1980 2) At / light 3) M.J.D. Brendell / B.M.1980-280 ( BMNH) . Paratype. same data as holotype, 1 ♀ (fw. 3.9) ( BMNH) .
Distribution. Central Sulawesi ( Indonesia).
Diagnosis. Rhotana brendelli is similar in coloration to R. miles sp. nov. from Borneo. However, the structure of the head, the forewing venation, and the male genitalia suggest more a relationship to R. pellax Fennah from Samoa, R. marmorata Zelazny from the Philippines, and R. papuensis sp. nov. from New Guinea.
