Reduncinae Knottnerus-Meyer 1907 View in CoL

Reduncinae Knottnerus-Meyer 1907 View in CoL , Arch. Naturgesch., 73: 39.

Genera: 3 genera with 9 species:

Genus Kobus A. Smith 1840 (5 species with 27 subspecies)

Genus Pelea Gray 1850 (1 species)

Genus Redunca C. H. Smith 1827 (3 species with 10 subspecies)

Discussion: Recent work has suggested that Pelea should be included in the Reduncinae ( Gatesy et al., 1997; Hassanin and Douzery, 1999 a; Vrba and Schaller, 2000) although Pelea is strongly differentiated from Kobus and Redunca in morphology. Peleinae has priority over Reduncinae but its seniority is not recognised here: inclusion of Pelea in Reduncinae is provisional, Reduncinae is a much more familiar and widely used name, and a proposal will be made to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature for the conservation of Reduncinae . Reduncini includes Kobus and Redunca ; Peleini includes Pelea .
