Pyralis trifasciana Fabricius, 1794: 248 .
Type locality. Italy (“Habitat in Italia Dr. Allioni”).
Material examined. None.
Identity. Isotrias rectifasciana ( Haworth, 1811) ( Chlidanotinae , Polyorthini ).
Remarks. The synonymy was proposed by Werneburg (1864) and was repeated in Brown (2005) and Beccaloni et al. (2005). The name has never been used as senior synonym, and I. rectifasciana is a well known species prevailing in the literature. According to the provisions of Article 23.9 (ICZN 1999), we propose the conservation of Haworth’s name (nomen protectum) and the suppression of the Fabrician name trifasciana (nomen oblitum). Appendix 4 lists 28 references by more than ten different authors that have used I. rectifasciana in the last 50 years.
