Pyralis squamana Fabricius, 1775: 651 ; 1781: 284; 1787: 234; 1794: 270.
Type locality. England (“Habitat in Anglia. Mus. Monson”).
Material examined. S & TL coll. 1 specimen.
Identity. Acleris literana ( Linnaeus, 1758) ( Tortricinae , Tortricini ).
Remarks. Although Fabricius (1787) refers to “ Phalaena scabrana Wien. Verz. 130.9” (= Acleris scabrana (Denis and Schiffermüller)) , the current concept (Brown 2005) is that this species is a synonym of A. literana . This is presumably based on Werneburg (1864) who synonymized it with “ asperana Tr. ”. There is no asperana described by Treitschke, but there is one described by Denis and Schiffermüller (1775). Pyralis squamana has long been considered a synonym of A. literana .
