Holotype. Gender unknown. ECUADOR: Orellana: Res. Ethnica, Waorani , 1 km S Onkone Gare Camp, 0039S 7626, 2-II- 1996, 220m, T. L. Erwin ( USNM).
Diagnosis. This species is distinguishable from superficially similar P. amplus by the yellow line on the sides of the elytra and yellow mark near the elytral disc.
Description. Size: Length 5.0 mm; width 1.4 mm. Form: As in Fig. 104 View Figs . Integument: Head mostly yellow, with rectangular black marking on vertex; antenna mostly black, antennomere 9 partially yellow, 10 yellow; pronotal disc broadly black, sides yellow; elytra mostly yellow, with yellow line at sides and with yellow macula near apex; legs mostly yellow, tibiae infuscated; pterothorax and abdomen brown. Head: Eyes narrower than frons (12:15); funicular antennomeres considerably expanded ( Fig. 33 View Figs ). Thorax: Pronotum quadrate (35:35), lateral tubercle very prominent ( Fig. 61 View Figs ); epipleural fold gradually diminishing to elytral apex; asetiferous punctures prominent to elytral half. Abdomen: Abdomen not available
Natural History. The type was collected during February, at 220 m elevation.
Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Ecuador ( Fig. 124 View Fig ).
Etymology. The name orellana constitutes a noun in apposition and refers to the type locality.
