Pterygosoma spinosa Jack, 1962: 285 , fig. 23

Type species: Agama spinosa (Sauria: Agamidae ). Type locality: Somalia (Borama district).

Redescription. FEMALE. Gnathosoma (based on 5 paratypes from Agama spinosa ). Chelicerae 185–230 long; swollen cheliceral part 75–100 long, slender distal part 105–130 long. Fixed cheliceral digit about 15 long, with minute tines. Setae dF and dG, 45–60 and about 65 long, respectively. Palpal tibia with small claw. Palpal tarsi with 3 setae. Subcapitulum with filiform setae n, 15–20 long. Peritremes 140–160 long. Hypostome 115–125 long, with small teeth present at rounded apex. Idiosoma 485–655 long and 1095–1365 wide. Dorsum. Antero-lateral part with 80–90 pairs of serrate setae, 15–55 long; medial part with 2 pairs of dorso-median setae dm. Setae dm1 serrate, 40–45 long, setae dm2 slightly serrate and apically expanded, 45–60 long. Posterior part with 20–32 pairs of smooth peripheral setae, 255–380 long, of 2 types: slightly apically expanded setae situated medially and fine-pointed setae situated laterally. All peripheral setae inserted terminally, except for 2 pairs inserted dorsally (1 pair near genital region and 1 pair laterally). Eyes absent. Venter with 3 pairs of ventro-median setae: vm1 filiform, vm2 and vm3 slightly serrate. Genital slit situated mainly dorsally. Genital series represented by 3 pairs of spine-like setae g1–g3, 20–30 long. Pseudanal series represented by 4–6 pairs of slightly apically expanded setae ps1–ps6, 65–115 long. Legs as in mutabilis group i. e. setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1–1–1), femora I–IV (3–1–1–1), genua I–IV (3–0–0–1), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3), but in 2 syntypes setae vTiIII present. All setae on each podomere filiform, except for slightly serrate setae dFI–IV. Setation of tarsi I−IV as in group A: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’ of legs II–IV and a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’, vs” of legs I–IV smooth.

MALE (based on 5 paratypes from Agama spinosa ). Gnathosoma as in female. Chelicerae 85–90 long; swollen cheliceral part 45–50 long, slender distal part 40 long. Fixed cheliceral digit about 10 long. Hypostome 60–75 long. Each branch of peritremes about 60 long. Subcapitular setae n about 10 long. Setae dF and dG 20–35 long. Idiosoma 300–345 long and 550–585 wide. Dorsum with 25–30 pairs of anterior serrate setae, 10–35 long; 3–6 pairs of lateral serrate setae, 30–80 long; 2 pairs of dorso-median serrate setae dm1 and dm2, about 25 long, and with 5–6 pairs of peripheral setae with barely discernible serration, 235–270 long. Eyes present. Aedeagus about 70–120 long. Genito-anal opening with 2 pairs of filiform setae, about 25 long (1 pair situated dorsally, 1 pair situated ventrally) and with 2 pairs of inconspicuous setae, about 5 long. Venter with 3 pairs of setae vm1–vm3. Setae vm1 filiform, setae vm2 and vm3 with barely discernible serration. Legs as in female.

Type material (examined). One female and 2 male paratypes ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.733–742) from Agama spinosa Gray (Sauria: Agamidae ) ( NHM no. 1937.12.5.50–54), SOMALIA: Borama District 42°40’E 10°35’N, 16–20 March 1933, coll. R. H. Taylor; 2 female paratypes ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.749–758) from same host ( NHM no. 1937.12.5.33–38), SOMALIA: Borama District 43°E 10°’N, 15 June 1934, coll. R. H. Taylor; 3 male paratypes ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.741–748) from same host species ( NHM no. 1937.12.5.61) and location, June 1934, coll. R. H. Taylor; 2 female paratypes ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.762–763) from same host species ( NHM no. 1869.11.4.5), ETHIOPIA, 4 November 1869, coll. Blandford.

Type material deposition. All type material deposited in the NHM (the holotype is lost, J. Beccaloni - personal communication) .

Host and distribution. This species is known only from Agama spinosa from Somalia [Borama District], Ethiopia and Egypt ( Jack 1962b).

Remarks. This study shows that in females setae dF are longer than dG and setae vGI are absent vs. setae dF and dG are subequal in length and setae vGI are present according to the original description ( Jack 1962b). Furthermore, in males two additional inconspicuous setae are present on the genital cone vs. lack of these setae in the species description.
