Pseudosmittia obtusa Strenzke, 1960b: 439 View in CoL ; Langton & Pinder 2007: 136, figs 70 G, 186 B.

Pseudosmittia trilobata, Pinder 1978 View in CoL , fig. 136c, not Strenzke.

Material examined: GERMANY: Baden-Württemberg, Schwarzwald , near outlet of a bog lake, 966 m a. s. l., holotype male, 27.vi.1953 or 13.vii.1954, W. Wülker, on slides (GP 676, 677) ( NMS) ; 2 males on 4 slides, same data as holotype (GP 674, 675, 678, 679) ( NMS) . NORWAY: Nordland, Bodø, Usker, Bukktjernan , 3 males, 16.vii.1980, A. Fjeldså ( UMSP) ; Nord-Trøndelag, Høylandet, Skiftesåa , male, 9–17.vii.1988, K. Aagaard ( VMT, ZMBN) ; Hordaland, Bergen, Arboretet at Milde , 1 male, 25.vi.1988, L. C. Ferrington jr.( ZMBN) .

Diagnostic characters: The male imago differs from P. trilobata primarily in lacking a lamella on the median volsella and less distinctly in the shape of the inferior volsella with strongest point at apex directed posteriorly.

Male imago (n = 10, except when otherwise stated)

All measurements and ratios within the range of variation of P. trilobata with the following exceptions and additions: Total length/wing length 1.61–1.76, 1.67 (7); wing ( Fig. 102 A View FIGURE 102 ) length/length of profemur 3.14–3.34, 3.24 (9); AR 0.98–1.14, 1.05 (8); terminal flagellomere 293–360, 329 µm (8) long; clypeus with 4–8, 6 (9) setae; tentorium 107– 126, 116 µm (8) long, 21–29, 24 µm (8) wide; stipes ( Fig. 102 D View FIGURE 102 ) 96–123, 111 µm (8) long; palpomere lengths (in µm): 21–30, 26; 30–46, 40; 59–82, 71 (9); 69–87, 79 (9); 98–117, 112 (7) ( Fig. 102 C View FIGURE 102 ); antepronotum well developed medially; VR 1.39–1.50, 1.44 (7); costal extension 16–34, 28 µm (6) long; LR 2 0.50–0.51 (2); BV 2 3.27 (1); SV 2 3.84– 3.90 (2); BV 3 3.21–3.48, 3.31 (5); BR 3 5.2–7.0, 5.9 (4); transverse sternapodeme 39–57, 47 µm (8) long; gonocoxite 121–149, 135 µm long; superior volsella ( Fig. 102 F View FIGURE 102 ) 25–34, 31 µm long, median volsella 27–32, 30 µm long, without apical lamella; inferior volsella 16–21, 19 µm long, widened and truncated at apex, with largest point directed posteriorly; HR 1.96–2.45, 2.24; HV 2.70–3.32, 3.01 (8).

Female, pupa and larva
