DIAGNOSIS. Antennae normally 9 segmented. Claw with a small but distinct denticle. Cerarii numbering 18 pairs. Anal lobe cerarii with 2 quite slender setae, and 3 or more small setae associated with a concentration of trilocular pores, all present on a slightly sclerotized area. Anterior cerarii with 2 lanceolate setae, except preocular pair (C2) with 3 or 4 setae. Circuli numbering 2. Ostioles well developed. Dorsal setae few, smaller than cerarian setae. Ventral multilocular disc pores present medially on posterior edges of segments III −VII, posterior to vulva, and on anterior edges of segments VI and VII. Quinquelocular pores present around mouthparts, thorax and medially on anterior abdominal segments. Trilocular pores evenly dispersed. Dorsal and ventral oral collar ducts of one size, numerous, except on head and pronotum, few.
DISTRIBUTION. Nearctic, Palaearctic: Afghanistan, Armenia, Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Germany, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. COMMENTS. A common Holarctic species. The mealybug P. aceris is considered to be of European origin where occasionally it becomes a pest on ornamental and fruit trees (Newstead, 1903). There is no record of damage in Iran. Fallahzadeh & Japoshvili (2010) recorded Anagyrus schoenherri (Westwood) as a parasitoid on P. aceris .
