Type:— TAIWAN. Chiayi County, Arisan, Hayata & Sasaki s.n. (holotype: TI).

Additional specimens examined:— TAIWAN. Chiayi County, Arisan , 2400 m, 1 September 1991, B.- J. Wang 18645 ( TAIF163671 About TAIF !) ; Taichung County, Dasyueshan Forest Recreation Area , 23 October 2016, P.- F. Lu 30065 (TAIF-502911!) .

Distribution:—Previously only known from Taiwan and Yunnan Province of China.

Ecology:—In Vietnam, this species grows on earthy ground under broad-leaved evergreen forest along the trail near ridge.

Note:—This species belongs to Polystichum sect. Macropolystichum Daigobo ( Zhang & Barrington 2013) . In Vietnam, sect. Macropolystichum is a group of moderate size with about 8 representatives. Polystichum prionolepis can be distinguished from other species in the same section by having the combination of following characters: lamina less divided (1-pinnate to bipinnatifid), broadly lanceolate, with 1 proliferous bud near the apex.
