This species is known only from Costa Rica, with previous records from Alajuela and San José provinces, and the Virilla River ( Hungerford 1932, 1939; Matsuda 1961b). It is herein reported for the first time from Cartago, Guanacaste, Heredia, Limón, and Puntarenas provinces. Platygerris asymmetricus is usually found on the riffles of lotic habitats, but has also been collected on slow flowing areas. It occurs on both the Atlantic and Pacific slopes, up to 2,406 m a.s.l.
