Basionym:— Randia mussaendoides Craib, Fl. View in CoL Siam. ii. 104 (1932); Craib, Kew Bull. 1932: 286 (1932), descr. ampl.

Homotypic synonyms:— Tarenna mussaendoides (Craib) K.M.Wong, Arbor. View in CoL Rubiaceae Malaya View in CoL 205 (1988); Porterandia mussaendoides (Craib) Tirveng., Biogeographica View in CoL 79(1): 37 (2003).

Type:— Thailand, Krabi, evergreen on rocky limestone hill, c. 50 m, Kerr 18849 (lectotype K [ K000172819 ], designated here; isolectotype BM [ BM000945262 ]) .

Distribution and habitat:— Pitardella mussaendoides occurs in Peninsular Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, in evergreen forest on limestone hills.

Additional specimens examined:— Peninsular Malaysia, Perlis, Kaki Bukit , 11 April 1938, Kiah SFN 35252 ( SING) ; Malacca, Bukit Klanara, Alvins 1190 ( SING) .

Notes:— Originally described as Randia mussaendoides ( Craib 1932) , the species was variously assigned to Tarenna ( Wong 1988) and Porterandia ( Tirvengadum 2003) . The protologue of Randia mussaendoides indicates that Kerr 18849 is the type specimen but does not specify a particular herbarium in which it was deposited. The K sheet is the better sheet with mature flowers among the two duplicates at BM and K, and is therefore here selected as the lectotype.
