Phalaena deceptoria Scopoli, 1763 , Entomologica Carniolica: 214: 527 (Type-locality: Slovenia, “Carniola, Umg. Idriam”).
Synonymy: Phalaena lineodes Hufnagel, 1766 ; Phalaena atratula [Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775]; Phalaena atratula Hübner , [1800–1803]), nec. Denis & Schiffermüller, 1775.
Material examined. 2 males, Honghuarji, Qiqihar, Prov. Heilongjiang, 17.vi.1987 (S.Y. Fang) [ NEFU]; 2 males, 1 female, Russia, Primorye terr., Barabash-Levada, 12–14.vi.1989 (V. Kononenko) [ IBSS]; 1 male, 1 female, Russia, Transbaikalia, Chita reg., Borzja, 30.vi.1997 (Golovushkin) [ HNHM]; Russia, S Ural, Chelyabinsk distr. Miass, Ilmen State res., 13.vi.1996 (K. Nupponen) [KN]; genitalia prep. male Russia, Primorye, VK 741; female VK 740.
Bionomics. Mesophilous species, occurs in open valley forest along rivers, warm glades, wet meadows, among bushes. Bivoltine, flight period from V to VIII in two generations. Larva feeds on Phleum pratense , Poa altaica (Poaceae) . Overwinters as pupa.
Distribution. Eurasian, subboreal. North China (Provinces Heilongjiang, Xinjiang).—Europe, Russia to Ural, through S Siberia and Transbaikalia, Far East, to Sakhalin and Kuriles.
