11. Pavonia repens Fryxell (1980: 266) View in CoL ( Figures 3 View FIGURE 3 , 5l, 6k).

Holotype:— BRAZIL. Lagoa Comprida , Mar 1839, G. Gardner 2048 ( K barcode K000535395 ! [digital image]; isotype IPA barcode IPA40792 About IPA !)

Taxonomic notes: —The differential characteristic of P. repens is observed in the flabelliform leaves (1.2‒3.6 × 2‒6.7 cm). Other important features are the pubescent branches, the epicalyx with 12 filiform bracteoles and mericarps 3-rostrate. The prostrate habit, epicalyx morphology and corolla color (yellow petals) are shared with P. cancellata and P. humifusa . But can be distinguished by the indument of the branches (pubescent in P. repens and P. cancellata , and velutinous in P. humifusa ) and the shape of leaves (flabelliform in P. repens , ovate or deltoid in P. cancellata and asymmetrical in P. humifusa ).

Distribution, habitat, and IUCN threat status: —This species is endemic to Northeastern Brazil and Caatinga. Previously it was only registered in the states of Piauí and Bahia, but in the present study, occurrence was verified for Pernambuco in the Caatinga Zone, subzone of Sertão do São Francisco. According to records, it does not occur in conservation units. According to the criteria B1 and B2 of IUCN (2022), this species has an EOO of 14,098.611 Km² and an AOO of 20.000 Km². It is distribution is restricted to domain of Caatinga, widely endangered ( Fernandes et al. 2018). The restricted distribution associated with the decrease in the vegetation cover of the Caatinga, due to degradation processes, increase the risk against the species. Therefore, P. repens is here considered EN.

Phenology: —Collected with flowers and fruits in January and March.
