Paulomanus falciformis View in CoL n. sp.

( Figs 1 View FIGURE 1 C – D, 2A – I)

Description. Length: male: 3.1 – 3.2 mm; female 3.4 – 3.5 mm.

Ground color whitish with red or orange markings, crown with two rectangular markings, pronotum with stripe on anterior margin, scutellum red; gena and clypeal suture reddish; forewing mottled with irregular reddish spots in the 2/3 basal ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 C). Other specimen with yellowish or orange markings, two triangular markings on crown between eyes, two at base of mesonotum; forewing mottled with yellowish spots, two in clavus, three in discal area and one enlarged mark at base of apical cells ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 D).

Male: Second sternal apodemes (2S) not developed. Pygofer ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A) with ventral process strongly arcuate, extending dorsal and then ventrally, tapering to acute tip. Subgenital plate ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B) expanded dorsad near midlength, with smaller lateral lobe beneath expanded area, covered with microsetae; lateral margin with row of macrosetae in basal 2/3; apex rounded. Style ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C) without preapical lobe, apex extending laterad, outer margin with 4 to 6 setae. Connective ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D) T-shaped. Aedeagus ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 E – F) with preatrium short, dorsal apodeme well developed, tapered in lateral view, shaft with two pairs of processes, apical pair shorter straight and directed caudo ventrally, preapical pair longer and curved ventro-cephalad, gonopore apical.

Female. Sternite VII ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 G) with rounded posterior margin and with short, acute median posterior lobe. Second valvulae slender, large valve ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 H) with 14 – 16 irregular teeth, ventral margin without teeth, small valve ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 I) with 10 regular teeth.

Material examined. Holotype male: ARGENTINA: Misiones, P.N. Iguazú, 25°40´43´´S 54°26´58´´W, 6 January 2008 (C.H. Dietrich, Hg vapor lights). [ MLP]. Paratypes: 1 male, 3 females: ARGENTINA: Misiones, Puerto Iguazú Viejo Amer. Campgd, 200mts, 25°37´19´´S 54°32´52´´W, 7 January 2008 (C.H. Dietrich, hand collected at night) [ INHS].

Etymology. The specific name refers to the sickle-shaped pygofer processes.

Notes. The new species is very close to B. rubrimera , but differs in having the pygofer appendage longer and the distal processes of the aedeagus extended posteroventrad instead of anteroventrad.

Two different color forms were observed but differences in the male genitalia were not found, so they are considered conspecific. This color polymorphism of this species resembles that of Zygina flammigera (Fourcroy, 1785) ( Günthart 1979) and Zygina nivea Mulsant & Rey 1855 ( Catalano et al. 2011) .
