Description of Paenibacillus gorillae SS 1-12

Cells are Gram-stain-positive, flagellated, and rod-shaped. Colonies grown on Reasoner’s 2A agar (R2A) are irregular and white-cream colored after incubation 2-3 days at 30°C. Positive for urease, esculin hydrolysis, and β -galactosidase, but negative for oxidase, reduction of nitrates, indole production, glucose fermentation, arginine dihydrolase, and gelatin hydrolysis. D-Glucose, L-arabinose, D-mannose, D-mannitol, N -acetyl-glucosamine, D-maltose, and potassium gluconate are utilized as sole carbon sources, but not capric acid, adipic acid, malic acid, trisodium citrate, and phenylacetic acid. Strain SS1-12 (= NNIBR2015296BA4) was isolated from sediment of the Nakdonggang River, Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. The GenBank accession number of 16S rRNA gene sequence is KU341394.
