Paduniella madagassa , new species
Figs 10–12 View FIGURES 10 – 12
The long median branch of the inferior appendages is bilobed in P. africana , P. a m b r a and P. nandra . Paduniella madagassa differs from these species by having tergite IX and superior appendages narrow and apparently fused, inferior appendages narrow; sternal strips broad and originating from the central part of a broad phallobase, and sternite IX semicircular.
Male genitalia ( Figs 10–12 View FIGURES 10 – 12 ). Sternite IX narrowly club-shaped in lateral view; both ventral arms with almost straight posterior and anterior margin, nearly 3 times longer than wide, about 0.1 mm long; with swelling at posteroventral corner; both dorsal arms narrowing anterad, nearly needle-shaped at apex, curving anterad along entire length, joined with tergite IX at dorsal part of genitalia, about 0.15 mm long. Ventral and dorsal arms forming sickle-shaped plates. Tergite IX long, smooth, in lateral view nearly parallel-sided, straight; apex completely fused with superior appendages. Superior appendages completely fused with apex of tergite IX; tapering apically, with concave ventral margin and convex dorsal margin, about as wide as widest part of sternite IX; setae present at apices; apex pointing ventrad. Median branch of inferior appendages curving ventrad along entire length; in ventral view originating proximally on main branch; parallel-sided, slightly curving mesad; apex bilobed; lobes equally large; covered by setae; nearly 0.14 mm long. Ventral lobe of inferior appendages minute, triangular in lateral and ventral view. Main branch of inferior appendages about 0.35 mm long, narrowing distad to mid-length; slightly curved ventrad; distal half narrow, straight; proximal part 2 times wider than widest part of superior appendages in lateral view. Phallic apparatus long, connected to sternite IX and tergite IX by long, horizontal, posteriorly narrowing sternal strips; dorsal margin S-shaped. Phallobase about 0.5 mm long, longer than phallicata, strongly pointed into long, anterior apex; posterior part with convex dorsal and ventral margins; about 2 times wider than sternal strips. Median processes about 0.6 mm long, needle-shaped, straight along entire length; originating from mid part of phallobase; each apex reaching as far posteriorly as paramere; longer than phallicata; series of ventral teeth present on left branch, absent on right branch. Phallicata strongly club-shaped; basal two-thirds slender, straight, parallel-sided; apex broad, asymmetrical, ventral margin nearly straight, dorsal margin slightly convex. Paramere separated from phallicata at posterior apex of phallobase; needle-shaped along its length, except slightly drop-shaped at apex; running parallel with and exceeding phallicata; nearly 0.5 mm long.
