3. Oxypetalum balansae Malme (1900: 51) . Type:— PARAGUAY. Asunción, March 1874, Balansa 1336 [lectotype S, designated by Goyder & Fontella-Pereira (2005: 100), isolectotypes BM!, G!, K!, P!]. ( Figure 1. C–D )

Gothofreda apoloensis Rusby (1912: 113) . Type:— BOLIVIA. Franz Tamayo: Apolo, 22 August 1902, Williams 1447 [lectotype NY, designated by Dorr (1992: 220), isolectotypes K!, NY!].

Oxypetalum pauciflorum Occhioni (1971: 8 , fig. 2). Type:— BRAZIL. Mato Grosso: Cuiabá, Coxipó da Ponte, 8 July 1970, Saddi 403 (holotype RFA!).

Oxypetalum apoloense (Rusby) Dorr (1991, publ. 1992: 220).

Distribution: — BOLIVIA: Beni, La Paz, Santa Cruz, Tarija. Open or disturbed cerrado vegetation in the eastern lowlands and inter-Andean dry valleys, often near swampy depressions; 200–1500 m elev. Also known from Brazil, Paraguay and northern Argentina.

La Paz: Nor Yungas, Milluguaya, 1300 m elev., December 1917 (fl, fr), O. Buchtien 610 (C, E, F, K, MO, NY, US). Santa Cruz: Chiquitos, Santiago de Chiquitos village, 18°19’S, 59°34’W, 650 m elev., 25 January 2001 (fl, fr), J.R.I. Wood & D.J. Goyder 16985 (K, LPB, USZ). Tarija: Gran Chaco, Tatarenda, 17 March 1902 (fl), R.E. Fries 1371 (S).
