Bathymetric distribution: 0–100 m —SW.
Geographical distribution: USA (Virginia) to Argentina (Golfo San Matias)—WGD.
Remarks: Ostrea stentina Payraudeau, 1826 is recorded from Brazil (e.g., Ranson 1967; CTFB 2024). A recent revision using molecular markers ( Hu et al. 2019) concluded that O. stentina is a species complex, consisting of three species, with O. equestris being restricted to the Americas and Asia, O. stentina from the eastern Atlantic, and O. neostentina L.-S. Hu, H.-Y. Wang, Z. Zhang, C. Li & X.-M. Guo, 2019 from the Mediterranean Sea and Asia.
