Ornebius albalatus View in CoL , new species
( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3 View FIGURE 3 )
Material examined. Holotype (male): Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang, Bukit Fraser, along Kindersley Trail, N03.71040, E101.73915, 1290 ± 7 m, on dead twig on fern, coll. M. K. Tan & S. T. Toh, 19 December 2012, 2013 hours (ZRC).
Paratypes: 2 females and 2 males, same locality as holotype, coll. M. K. Tan & S. T. Toh: 1 female, along Valley Road, N03.71686, E 101.74073, 1237 ± 7 m, on shrub, 21 December 2012, 1402 hours; 1 female, along Abu Suradi Trail, N03.71264, E101.73402, 1306 ± 6 m, on twig on tree, 25 December 2012, 1945 hours; 1 male, along Mager Road, N03.70794, E101.73969, 1283 ± 6.5 m, on grasses, 19 May 2013, 1956 hours; 1 male, along Bishop Trail, N03.71711, E101.73766, 1284 ± 5.1 m, on leaf of treelet, 20 May 2013, 2114 hours (all ZRC).
Diagnosis. This species is very distinct from known species from Indo-Malayan region. Tegmen in male pale yellow; with two black narrow bands along margin (similar to Ornebius marginatus Ingrisch, 1998 ). Also differ from O. marginatus by apical segments of maxillary palps longer and less widened and face colouration. Last abdominal tergite in male with apex with a pair of short and roundly-wide lobes and emarginated in middle (similar to Ornebius dumoga Ingrisch, 2006 and Ornebius consternus Ingrisch, 2006 ). Also similar to O. dumoga and O. consternus by maxillary palps elongate, apical segment little widened, but differ by face colouration, tegmen colouration and male genitalia.
Male genitalia very distinct from known males of Ornebius from South East Asia, including O. marginatus , O. dumoga and O. consternus . Ejaculatory duct with basal part strongly curled into a large spiral, its base forming an axis in centre, somewhat similar to Ectatoderus samui Ingrisch, 2006 . Similar structure of male genitalia also known from Ornebius formosanus (Shiraki, 1911) . Ovipositor with ventral valves distinctively long, surpassing well beyond apex of dorsal valves.
Description. Habitus typical for the genus ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ). Frontal rostrum as wide as, or slightly narrower than scapus; apex truncated and straight. Maxillary palps with apical segment slightly widened, more strongly widened at the apical half, longer than the third and fourth segments; third segment longer than fourth segment ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 A). Pronotum in male about 1.2–1.5 times (mean = 1.3, n = 3) longer than wide with anterior dorsal margin straight; lateral margins widening posteriorly; posterior margin convex, not covering tegmen to base of mirror. Tegmen in male about 1.1–1.2 times (mean = 1.1, n = 3) wider than posterior area of pronotum; posterior margin convex; mirror roundly triangular, wider than round ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Fore tibiae with internal tympanum large and oval; without external tympanum. Hind femora 1.1–1.2 times (mean = 1.1, n = 5) longer than hind tibiae; hind tibiae 3.2–3.5 times (mean = 3.3, n = 5) longer than metatarsi.
Male. Supra-anal plate with last abdominal tergite and epiproct distinctly separated by a transverse suture; last abdominal tergite with long baso-lateral bristles, apex with a pair of short and roundly-wide lobes, emarginated in middle; epiproct wider than long, with apex truncated, apical margin straight ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 C). Sclerotised part of male genitalia as in Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 D. Lateral valve mostly membranous; apically with a pair of small, narrow and spine-like external sclerite on each side. Internal sclerite of medial valve with two elongated and straight narrow rod, gently curved dorsad at base in lateral view; apex widen into a transverse spade-like lobe, apical margin truncated. Ejaculatory duct with basal part strongly curled into a large spiral; its base (with spermatophore sac?) forming an axis in centre, projecting perpendicular of the spiral; with apical part dorsad of internal sclerite of medial valve, straight to slightly curved; with apex acute slightly surpassing external sclerite of external sclerite of lateral valve.
Female. Ninth abdominal tergite with apical margin slightly emarginate. Supra-anal plate with last abdominal tergite and epiproct not fused; last abdominal tergite transverse, with a medial furrow basally; epiproct tongueshaped, wider than long, with longitudinal groove cutting between carinulae laterally, faintly depressed in middle; apex roundly truncated, carrying a few long and thick bristles. Subgenital plate wider than long, apical margin strong roundly excised in middle. Ovipositor rather short, curved; apical valves with margins smooth; ventral valves distinctively long, surpassing well beyond apex of dorsal valves; ventral margin of dorsal valves with 4 bristles (n = 2) ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 E).
Colouration. Generally yellow brown with pale yellow scales in fresh specimens, with some tint of dark grey scales. Head pale yellow, with frontal rostrum, frons and gena dark grey; with longitudinal dark grey band behind eye; frons dark grey; antennae socket grey, scapus pale yellow, antenna brown. Maxillary and labial palps yellow brown. Pronotum pale yellow with tint of dark grey on dorsal disc and anterior part of lateral lobe, apical margin with white scales. Tegmen in male pale yellow; with two black narrow bands along margin, each band sometimes pale and disconnected ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). Legs generally pale yellow; fore and middle femora with two grey ring, one on the basal half, the other on the distal half; hind femora pale yellow, with a dark grey band medially. Abdomen dorsally pale yellow with some tints of dark grey brown, apex slightly grey; ventrally nearly white; subgenital plate dark brown to black. Cerci yellow grey.
Measurements. See Table 2 View TABLE 2 .
Etymology. The species name is from Latin words albatus (= coated in white) and alatus (= winged) in reference to the diagnostic pale tegmen in male.
