( Figure 46 View FIGURES 44 – 50 )
Creontiades orientalis Poppius, 1915a: 17 View in CoL –18 (as new species); Carvalho 1959: 75 (catalog); Goel 1972: 367 (anatomy); Schuh 1995: 745 (catalog), 2002–2013 (online catalog).
Material examined. Type specimen: Syntype ♀: INDIA: TAMIL NADU: Trichinopoly (now Tiruchirappalli), 1898, type 10049 ( MZHF) [The specimen bears the Poppius’ original handwritten identification label with the mention “ Creontiades orientalis n. sp. ” and a second label with the mention “Museum Paris, Inde Mérid. Trichinopoli, Coll. Noualhier 1898”].
Diagnosis. Body reddish-brown to dark brown. Head yellow to orange with a brown stripe. Frons transversally grooved, grooves reddish. Vertex yellow to orange, its posterior part slightly raised, dark red; sulcus elongated, extended on neck. Eyes gray with black patches. First antennal segment yellow, with small dark red spots. Second antennal segment yellow, apex red brown. Third antennal segment yellow. Apical collar of pronotum greenish yellow. Pronotal disk brown, with dark red patches on posterior area, posterior margin faintly greenish yellow. Legs yellow, tibial spines black. Scutellum and hemelytra reddish-brown, clavus rugose, exocorium finely edged by black margin, cuneus red with a brown patch, its apex yellow. Hemelytral punctation very shallow and dense, hemelytral pilosity elongate, sub-erect.
Discussion. The types of O. orientalis conform to our diagnosis of Orientomiris on the basis of their external anatomy; hence we suggest the new combination. The exact number of specimens originally included in the typeseries is not specified by Poppius (1915a), although the new species was described based on specimens of both sexes from two different localities (Madura and Trichinopoly). Eleven specimens of both sexes are available in MZHF collection: three specimens labelled as type mentioned in the type file of the Entomology Department, six specimens with the same labels than type not mentioned in the file and two additional specimens from another origin. Several syntypes, originally from MNHN ( Poppius 1915a), are now preserved in MZHF.
