29. Oolina laevigata d’Orbigny, 1839 ( Plate 6. 3 a-c)
Oolina laevigata d’Orbigny, 1839, p. 19 , pl. 5, fig. 3
(cited from Ellis & Messina, 1940).
Material examined. Korea, East Sea , station E8 (37°23 ʹ 55.665 ʺ N, 129°14 ʹ 57.671 ʺ E), 21 May 2016, by Van Veen Grab, collected by Raehyuk Jeong and Jisu Yeom. NIBR ID: NIBRPR0000107232 GoogleMaps .
Diagnosis. Test small, unilocular, and nearly globular to ovate. Wall calcareous, hyaline, surface smooth and opaque. Aperture rounded, surrounded by radial grooves.
Remarks. According to Loeblich & Tappan (1987), O. laevigata is the type species of the genus Oolina . Our specimen seems more similar to the specimen reported in Loeblich & Tappan (1987, pl. 463, figs. 8-9) than the specimen of original description ( Ellis & Messina, 1940) by having more flattened apertural side. There are 95 extant species in the genus Oolina and 21 species have been reported in Korea.
Distribution. Korea, China, Yellow Sea, North Atlantic Ocean, Irish Sea and St. George’s Channel, Falkland Islands.
