HOLOTYPE (J): ‘ SOMALIA IT. / Eil (Nogal) / III-IV-1938 / S. Venzo [p] // Typus [p, red lanel, black frame] // Onthophagus / abas n.sp. [hw] / Dr. V. Balthasar det. [p] // Onthophagus / abas Balth. [hw, pink label]’.

Current status. Valid species; not assigned to any subgenus.

Remark. BALTHASAR (1946a) reported the type specimen as a female, nevertheless the dissection proved it was a male.
