Psyche jordana Staudinger, 1899: 160 , lectotype in MfN (examined). Type locality: Probably Israel (“Jordanthal”).
Material examined: 2 ♁ Jordan, Southwest, Ar Rajif, 1200 m, early summer 2002, LF, leg. G. Müller; 1 ♁ Palestine, 10 km N Nablus, 660 m, 15.vii.1999, leg. G. Müller; 1 ♁ “Palaestina”, Dr. Bytinski-Salz.
Redescription. Head. Frons and vertex rough short brownish hairy. Eyes EI 0.66. Antennae of more than half forewing length with 28–30 very long pecten.
Thorax. Wings. Covered with brownish hair-like scales. Wingspan 21–22 mm, forewing length 10–11 mm. Forewings are broad, costal margin straight or slightly convex. Light brownish grey, hindwings with the same colour. FI 2.6. Forewing with short to medium long scales, mostly lanceolate or with two dentations.
Abdomen distinctly protruding the anal margin of the hindwings.
Male genitalia. GP 4127, 4150, 4152 ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 33–41. 33 ), 4153. Broad in general appearance. Tegumen pointed, broadly folded laterally. When closed, valvae protruding the distal end of the tegumen. Valvae slender, clasper of the sacculus more sclerotized, covered with 4–6 short spines. Cucullus is long and slender, directed downwardly. Vinculum broad, the lobes laterally hardly pronounced. Saccus long and straight, not enlarged caudally. Phallus is nearly straight, narrower distally, hammer-shaped, and two-lobed distally with a ventral inversion.
Female. Unknown. Larval case. Length 35–45 mm, width 10–13 mm, covered irregularly with long twigs of shrubs and thin grass stems ( Fig. 1a, b View FIGURE 1 ).
Distribution. Widespread but rarely collected in Near East. After Andres (1912) also in Egypt (in MfN 2 specimen with data “Aegyptus”).
