( Figs. 24–31 View FIGURES 24 – 31 )
Odontosema anastrephae Borgmeier, 1935: 113
Diagnosis. Body slender. Head ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) with lateral margin of occiput not well defined. Eyes pilose. Antennae of female ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) pilose, cilindrical, widened towards apex, club 6segmented, conspicuous. Antennae of male ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) with the first flagellomere slightly curved, distally swollen, longer than second. Dorsal margin of pronotal plate ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) deeply emarginate; sides of pronotum with conspicuous longitudinal carinae. Mesoscutum ( Figs. 28 and 29 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) slightly convex in profile, smooth. Dorsal part of scutellum ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) areolaterugose, dorsoposterior part in dorsal view emarginate, with two teeth. Scutellar plate ( Figs. 28 and 29 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) large, flat, with an elliptical pit close to the posterior margin of the plate. Mesopleuron ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) with subalar pit. Metapleuron ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) slightly sculptured. Forewings ( Fig. 30 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) completely hyaline, apical margin with hair fringe; marginal cell anteriorly open; veins pale. Metacoxa ( Fig. 31 View FIGURES 24 – 31 ) with scarse hairs. Third abdominal tergum of metasoma ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ) with a thin hairy ring at base; metasoma distally punctate.
Geographical distribution. Neotropical Region: Mexico (HernandezOrtiz et al. 1994) and Brazil ( Guimarães et al. 2000a). In Brazil it is distributed throughout the States of Amazonas, Mato Grosso do Sul, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul ( Guimarães et al. 2000a) and Rio de Janeiro (new record).
Hosts. Tephritidae : Anastrepha fraterculus (in Borgmeier 1935), Anastrepha spp. and Ceratitis capitata (in Wharton et al. 1981; Guimarães et al. 1999). Lonchaeidae : Neosilba pendula (in Costa Lima 1940).
Wharton et al. (1998) suggested that O. anastrephae may be a parasitoid rather of tephritids than of other dipterous. Most of the material estudied herein was obtained from Tephritidae puparia in Myrtaceae .
Remarks. Odontosema Kieffer, 1909 is represented by two neotropical species: O. albinerve Kieffer, 1909 and O. anastrephae . The specimens studied of these species show that the morphological differences between them could be only individual variations.
