Nothopegia dalzellii var. angustifolia Gamble (1918: 265) (nom. superfl.)

Type citation:— “Nilgiri and Pulney Hills (Bourne)”

Type:— INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Nilgiri District, Coonoor, 02 July 1896, Bourne s.n. (lectotype K 000695600!, designated by Matthew (1991: 543))

Syntype: — INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Dindigul District, Perumbukanal—Pulneys, 07 December 1898, Bourne 859 ( MH 00001972!).

Notes:— N. dalzelli var. angustifolia was described by Gamble (1918) based on the collections of Bourne. Since the species name was superfluous, Chitra (1983) published the new combination N. racemosa var. angustifolia . We were able to trace two sheets of Bourne at K ( K 000695600!) and MH ( MH 00001972!) and both the sheets contain the determination and drawings by Gamble. Matthew (1991) in his precursory notes for the Flora of Pulney hills had noted “ var. angustifolia Gamble , 1.c. Type: A. G. Bourne s.n. Connoor ( K)”. This should be treated as an effective lectotypification. As per Art. 7.3., Nothopegia racemosa var angustifolia (Gamble) Chitra is automatically typified by the type of its basionym.
