Brief description: —Shrubs 2–8 m tall. Leaf petiole 7.8–27 mm long, blade 16.5–60 × 4.87–15 cm, margin entire, venation camptodromous, abaxial surface sparsely pubescent to glabrous; capitula discoid, involucre 5–7.3 × 4–7 mm, cylindrical, phyllaries densely pubescent; disc florets 25–30 per capitulum, corolla 5–7.2 mm long, yellow; cypselae 2–2.6 mm long, eglandular, pappus 35–65 bristles.
We record here for the first time that N. macrophylla has a hemipaleaceous receptacle.
Geographic distribution: — Guatemala (NY 368341!) and Mexico, in Chiapas ( US 256540!) and Oaxaca states (TEX 430317) ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
